Requirements for Assisted Living Units in Montana
In the state of Montana, private, single occupancy assisted living units must be minimum 100 square feet and those with double occupancy or more up to 4 shall be 80 square feet per resident. The state of Montana allows up to 4 senior residents in one shared assisted living unit. That is 320 square feet when the capacity is filled. This does not include, alcoves, lockers, bathrooms, closets, free-standing wardrobes or any recessed room including door swing space. This is for the safe passage of each occupant in their common living quarters.
The bathroom requirements for assisted living in Montana are as follows: one fully operating toilet for each senior care resident up to 4 residents; there must also be one bath or shower facility up to every 12 senior care residents.
There is one thing regarding bathrooms that is different than most states when it comes to assisted living in Montana. Each resident must have access to a toilet that is not located in any other senior care resident’s room. The toilet also should not be located in any other room such as the dining, living, kitchen rooms. The doors must open outward. If this is not possible, the bathroom in the assisted living unit must have pocket doors installed to prevent the senior from becoming trapped inside the bathroom.
Assisted Living Cost and Payment Options in Montana
The state of Montana’s average monthly cost of assisted living is just below the national average of $4,000, at $3,919. The least expensive city is Great Falls at $3,350 per month and the most expensive city is Missoula at $4,736, which is several hundred above the national average. This pricing does not account for Montana dementia & Alzheimer’s care, which can be $1,000 or more on top of the base cost.
There are currently no Medicaid programs that directly supplement assisted living care or nursing home costs, nor are there any Medicaid waivers or non-Medicaid programs we could find that would pay for assisted living. There are other options that you or the senior may have earned in their own life.
First, for anyone, there are non-profits in each state, including the state of Montana, that may help to supplement the senior for anything they may need including personal care or room and board at an assisted living facility.
